UAE summers are long and hot, and the heat can affect your health in ways that are easy to miss. A few simple habits go a long way.
Stay ahead of dehydration
Don't wait until you feel thirsty. Keep water with you and sip through the day, especially if you work or exercise outdoors. Dark urine and headaches are early warning signs.
Know the signs of heat exhaustion
Heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea and cramps can signal heat exhaustion. Move to a cool place, rest and rehydrate — and seek care if symptoms don't ease.
Protect your skin
Use sunscreen, cover up, and avoid the midday sun where you can. The UAE sun is strong even on hazy days.
Mind the air conditioning
Moving between fierce heat and cold air conditioning can trigger coughs, colds and dry eyes. Keep indoor temperatures moderate where possible.
Look out for children and older relatives
Young children and older adults feel the heat more and may not notice dehydration. Check on them often.
